How do I set up host records for a domain?

"Host records" (also known as DNS records) are the individual entries that tell the internet where to find your website, your email server, and your security certificates.

At Nixzoehost, you can manage these records directly within your dashboard as long as your domain is using our BasicDNS or PremiumDNS nameservers.

Step 1: Access Advanced DNS

  1. Log in to your Nixzoehost Client Area.

  2. Select Domain List from the left sidebar.

  3. Click the Manage button next to the domain you want to edit.

  4. Navigate to the Advanced DNS tab at the top of the page.

Step 2: Add a New Record

  1. Locate the Host Records section and click the Add New Record button.

  2. Choose the Type of record from the dropdown menu (e.g., A Record, CNAME, TXT).

  3. Fill in the Host, Value, and TTL fields (see the "Field Guide" below).

  4. Click the Save Changes (checkmark) icon to finalize the record.

The Host Records Field Guide

When adding a record, you will see three main fields. Here is how to fill them out correctly:

Field,What to Enter
Host," Use @ for your main/root domain (e.g., yoursite.com). Enter just the prefix for a subdomain (e.g., type blog for blog.yoursite.com)."
Value," For A Records: Enter an IP address (e.g., 123.45.67.89). For CNAME/ALIAS: Enter a destination URL (e.g., shops.myshopify.com)."
TTL,"This stands for ""Time to Live."" We recommend leaving this at Automatic or 30 min for most setups."

Field What to Enter
Host

Use @ for your main/root domain (e.g., yoursite.com).

Enter just the prefix for a subdomain (e.g., type blog for blog.yoursite.com).

Value

For A Records: Enter an IP address (e.g., 123.45.67.89).

For CNAME/ALIAS: Enter a destination URL (e.g., shops.myshopify.com).

TTL This stands for "Time to Live." We recommend leaving this at Automatic or 30 min for most setups.

Important Rules for Host Records

  • Avoid Record Conflicts: You cannot have two different records for the same Host. For example, if you have an A Record pointing to your old host, you must delete it before adding a new A Record or ALIAS for your new host.

  • The "@" Symbol: In the DNS world, the @ symbol is a shorthand way of saying "the main domain itself" without any prefixes.

  • TTL and Propagation: When you save a record, it doesn't always go live instantly. It usually takes 30 minutes to 24 hours for the new "directions" to be updated across every server on the internet.

  • Nameserver Check: If you don't see the option to manage host records, its likely because your domain is pointed to a third party (like Wix or Cloudflare) or our Web Hosting DNS. In that case, you must manage your records at that provider or within your cPanel.
