It is a stressful moment when your domain expires, but at Nixzoehost, we have systems in place to help you recover it. The steps you take depend on exactly how long ago the domain expired.
How can I renew my expired domain?
Scenario A: It expired less than 30 days ago
During the first 30 days after expiration, most domains (like .com, .net, or .org) are in the Renewal Grace Period. You can usually renew these yourself directly from your dashboard at the normal price.
-
Log in to your Nixzoehost Client Area.
-
Go to Domains > My Domains.
-
Look for your domain. It will likely have a status of "Expired."
-
If the domain is still within the grace period, you will see a "Renew" button or can add it to your cart.
-
Complete the payment. Your website and email should come back online within 14 hours (once DNS propagation completes).
Scenario B: It expired more than 30 days ago
If you have passed the initial grace period, the domain likely enters the Redemption Period.
-
The Status: The domain will disappear from your "My Domains" list.
-
The Cost: Registries charge a high Redemption Fee (often $100+) in addition to the standard renewal price to "rescue" the domain from deletion.
-
How to fix it: You cannot renew this via the website. You must open a support ticket with our billing department immediately. We will contact the registry to see if the domain is still recoverable.
Scenario C: It expired more than 7080 days ago
At this stage, the domain enters "Pending Delete" status.
-
The Status: No one can renew itnot even Nixzoehost.
-
How to fix it: You must wait for the domain to be released back to the public pool (usually 5 days after entering this status). Once it's available, you can try to register it as a brand-new domain. Note: There is a high risk that "domain squatters" or bots will buy it the second it becomes available.
Important Checklist for Expired Domains
-
Check your nameservers: When a domain expires, some registries point it to a "parking page." After you renew, double-check your Nameserver settings in the Nixzoehost dashboard to ensure they are still pointing to your hosting.
-
Update your payment info: If your domain expired because of a failed auto-renewal, go to Billing > Payment Methods and update your card to prevent this from happening again.
-
Manual DNS Refresh: If your site doesn't load a few hours after renewal, try clearing your browser cache or flushing your local DNS.
