What are the Domain's Extended Attributes?

When you register a domain name, you usually only provide standard contact info: name, address, and email. However, for certain specialized or country-specific extensions (ccTLDs), the registry requires extra data known as Extended Attributes (or Additional Domain Fields).

These are mandatory fields that Nixzoehost must collect and pass on to the domain registry to prove you are eligible to own that specific address.

Why are Extended Attributes Required?

Not all domains are "open" to everyone. Some countries and organizations use extended attributes to verify:

  • Nexus (Connection): Proof that you actually live or do business in a specific country (e.g., .US or .CA).

  • Legal Status: Whether you are an individual, a corporation, or a government entity.

  • Professional Licensing: Ensuring only verified lawyers can own a .LAW domain or verified banks can own .BANK.

Common Examples of Extended Attributes

If you choose one of the following domains at Nixzoehost, you will see a request for extra information during checkout:

Domain Extension Typical Extended Attributes Required
.ASIA Your "Charter Entity" type and a Passport or Business ID number.
.CA Selection of your "Legal Type" (e.g., Canadian Citizen, Corporation).
.COM.AU Your Australian Business Number (ABN) or Company Number (ACN).
.DE A valid Administrative Contact address located within Germany.
.US Your "Nexus Category" (e.g., Citizen, Permanent Resident, or Foreign Entity).

When Will I See These Fields?

You will encounter these fields during the Domain Configuration step of your shopping cart. If a domain requires extended attributes, our system will prevent you from moving to the next step until the required fields are filled out.

What Happens if I Provide Incorrect Info?

Providing inaccurate extended attributes is a violation of registry policy. If the information is found to be false:

  1. Pending Status: Your domain registration will fail to complete and stay "Pending."

  2. Suspension: The registry may suspend or delete your domain later without a refund.

  3. Verification Requests: The registry may email you directly asking for physical proof (like a copy of your ID or business license).

Pro Tip: Always double-check your business registration numbers or professional IDs before submitting. Most registries use automated systems to verify this data instantly!
