Implementing Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

At Nixzoehost, we use the TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password) method. This is the industry standard for security, used by companies like Google, Facebook, and major banks. It requires a 6-digit code from a mobile app to complete your login.

Step 1: Choose Your Authenticator App

Before enabling 2FA in your Nixzoehost dashboard, ensure you have an authenticator app installed on your smartphone. We recommend:

  • Authy (Recommended): Best for most users because it allows for encrypted cloud backups. If you lose your phone, you can recover your codes easily.

  • Google Authenticator: Simple, lightweight, and works offline.

  • Microsoft Authenticator: Great if you already use it for Work or School accounts.

Step 2: Enable 2FA in the Client Area

  1. Log in to your Nixzoehost Client Area.

  2. Click on the "Hello, [Name]!" dropdown at the top right and select Security Settings.

  3. Locate the Two-Factor Authentication section and click the button to Enable.

  4. A QR code will appear on your screen.

Step 3: Link Your Device

  1. Open your chosen app (Authy/Google Authenticator) on your phone.

  2. Select the "+" or "Add Account" option.

  3. Choose Scan a QR Code and point your phones camera at your computer screen.

  4. Once scanned, your app will show a 6-digit code for "Nixzoehost."

  5. Type that 6-digit code into the "Verification Code" box on your computer and click Submit.

Step 4: Save Your Backup Codes (CRITICAL)

Once 2FA is active, Nixzoehost will generate a list of 10 Emergency Backup Codes.

  • Action: Copy these codes and save them in a safe place (like a physical notebook or a secure password manager).

  • Why: If you lose your phone or it gets stolen, these codes are the only way to log in without contacting our support team for manual verification.

Managing Your 2FA Settings

Action How to do it
Disable 2FA Go to Security Settings > Click Disable (Requires current password).
Re-sync Device Disable 2FA and then re-enable to scan a new QR code.
Generate New Backup Codes If you have used most of your codes, click "Regenerate" in Security Settings.

This is the single most important security step a user can take at Nixzoehost. By implementing 2FA, even if a malicious actor discovers a user's password, they cannot access the account without the secondary code generated on the user's physical device.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will 2FA slow down my login?

It adds about 10 seconds to the process, but the security it provides is worth the small delay. You can also use the "Trust this Device" feature to stay logged in for 30 days.

  • What if the code is rejected?

99% of the time, this is due to a Time Desync. Ensure your phone's time is set to "Automatic" in your system settings. If the clock is off by even 30 seconds, the code will fail.

  • Can I use 2FA for my WordPress Admin too?

Yes! While this guide is for your hosting account, we recommend a plugin like Wordfence or Two Factor to protect your WordPress /wp-admin dashboard as well.

Nixzoehost Security Pledge: We are committed to keeping your digital assets safe. By enabling 2FA today, you are joining the top 5% of secure internet users and making it virtually impossible for hackers to hijack your account.
