What to Do If Your Account Is Locked
There are two main types of "locks" you might experience: an IP Address Block or a Security Hold. Here is how to identify and solve each one.
1. The IP Address Block (Most Common)
If you enter the wrong password more than 5 times in a row, our firewall will automatically block your current internet connection (IP address).
-
How to tell: You will see a "Forbidden" message or the site simply won't load for you, even though it works on your phone's cellular data.
-
The Solution: * Wait: The block is temporary and usually lifts automatically after 15 to 30 minutes.
-
Switch Networks: If you are on Wi-Fi, switch to your mobile hotspot. This gives you a new IP address and allows you to try again immediately.
-
Clear Cache: Sometimes your browser "remembers" the blocked state. Clear your browser cache or use an Incognito/Private window.
-
2. The "Security Hold" Lock
If our system detects highly unusual activity (like a login from a new country followed by an immediate password change request), we may place a manual lock on the account.
-
How to tell: You receive an email stating your account has been locked for security reasons, or a message pops up saying "Please contact support to verify your identity."
-
The Solution: 1. Go to the Nixzoehost Support Page. 2. Open a ticket under Account Verification. 3. Be prepared to provide proof of ownership, such as a photo of your ID or the last 4 digits of the credit card on file.
3. If You Lost Your 2FA Device
If your account is "locked" because you no longer have access to your Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) app:
-
Use Backup Codes: When you first set up 2FA, you were given a list of emergency codes. Enter one of those in the 2FA field.
-
Contact Support: If you didn't save your codes, our team can manually disable 2FA for you after you pass a strict identity verification check.
| Error Message / Symptom | Likely Cause | Fix |
| "Forbidden" / Page Not Loading | IP Block (Firewall) | Wait 15 mins or change Wi-Fi. |
| "Invalid Login" | Wrong Email or Password | Use the "Forgot Password" tool. |
| "Contact Support to Verify" | Security Audit | Open a support ticket immediately. |
| 2FA Code Rejected | Time Sync Issue | Ensure your phone's time is "Automatic." |
How to Avoid Being Locked Out Again
-
Use a Password Manager: This prevents "Invalid Login" attempts by auto-filling the correct credentials every time.
-
Whitelist Your IP: If you have a static IP address at your office, contact our support team and we can "whitelist" it so our firewall never blocks you.
-
Update Your 2FA: If you get a new phone, remember to move your 2FA accounts over before wiping your old device!
Nixzoehost Pro-Tip: If you are locked out and have an urgent website emergency, don't panic! Even if you can't log in to the Client Area, your website stays online. Our team is available 24/7 to help you regain access.
