How to Enable or Disable Domain Privacy? Print

Whether you want to hide your home address or you need to temporarily show your ownership details for a domain verification process, managing your privacy settings at Nixzoehost is a simple toggle.

How to Enable or Disable Domain Privacy

You can manage your "ID Protection" (Domain Privacy) settings directly from your Client Area. Changes made here usually update the global WHOIS database within 24 hours.

Step 1: Access Your Domain Management

  1. Log in to your Nixzoehost Client Area.

  2. On the main dashboard, click the Domains tile, or go to Domains > My Domains in the top navigation bar.

  3. Find the domain you wish to manage and click the wrench icon (Manage) or click on the "Active" status.

Step 2: Locate the ID Protection Tab

  1. On the left-hand sidebar menu, look for the section labeled Add-ons.

  2. Inside the Add-ons page, you will see a card for ID Protection.

    • Note: If you do not see it in the sidebar, it may also be listed under "Management Tools" or "ID Protection" depending on your specific view.

Step 3: Toggle the Status

  • To Enable: If the service is currently disabled, click the Enable button. As a Nixzoehost customer, this will be applied at $0.00 cost.

  • To Disable: If you need to make your information public (for example, to verify ownership for a specialized certificate), click Disable ID Protection.

When should you Disable Domain Privacy?

While we recommend keeping it Enabled at all times, there are two specific scenarios where you might need to turn it off:

  1. Transferring Your Domain: Some registrars require the WHOIS data to be public before they can initiate a transfer out of Nixzoehost.

  2. Organization Verification: If you are applying for a "Business Class" (EV) SSL certificate, the certificate authority may need to see your company name in the public WHOIS record to verify you own the domain.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Issue Reason Solution
Button is Missing Your domain extension (TLD) may not support privacy. Check our supported TLD list (e.g., .us domains).
Status is "Pending" The registry is still processing the change. Wait 12 hours. Registry updates are not always instant.
Info still shows on Google Old WHOIS data is "cached" by third-party sites. Use a tool like whois.com to see the live data. It may take a few days for Google to clear its cache.

Nixzoehost Expert Tip: Disabling privacy makes your data public instantly. If you only need to verify ownership for a transfer, we recommend re-enabling it the moment the transfer is confirmed to prevent spammers from grabbing your phone number.
