How to Upgrade Your WordPress Version

Keeping your WordPress version up to date is the single most important task for maintaining site security and speed. At Nixzoehost, we make this process risk-free by using AI-powered Smart Updates.

Instead of just "clicking and hoping," our system tests the new version on a clone of your site first to ensure nothing breaks.

Step 1: Access the WordPress Manager

  1. Log in to your Nixzoehost Client Area.

  2. Navigate to Services > My Services and click on your Managed WordPress plan.

  3. Click the WordPress Management button on the left-hand sidebar.

Step 2: Check for Available Updates

In your dashboard, you will see a section titled Updates.

  • If your site is on the latest version (e.g., WordPress 6.9.4), you will see a green checkmark.

  • If a new version is available, a notification will appear with an "Update Now" button.

Step 3: Perform a "Smart Update" (Recommended)

When you click update, you have two choices. We strongly recommend the Smart Update option.

  1. Select "Smart Update": The system will now create a temporary, hidden "Clone" of your website.

  2. The AI Test: Our system performs a visual scan of your site, then applies the update to the clone.

  3. Review the Report: After a few minutes, you will receive a report. It will show a side-by-side comparison of your site "Before" and "After" the update.

  4. Confirm the Push: If the AI detects no issues and the site looks perfect, click Apply Update. Your live site will now be updated to the latest version.

Why use Smart Updates instead of the WordPress Dashboard?

Feature Standard Dashboard Update Nixzoe Smart Update
Safety High Risk (May break site). Zero Risk.
Downtime Possible if update fails. No Downtime.
Themes/Plugins Not always tested for compatibility. Checked via AI Visual Analysis.
Rollback Manual backup restore required. Automated rollback included.

Managing Automatic Updates

If you prefer to be "hands-off," you can toggle Autoupdate settings at the bottom of the screen.

  • Minor Versions Only: This will automatically apply security patches (like 6.9.3 to 6.9.4) without asking. This is the safest way to stay secure.

  • Major Versions: This will automatically upgrade you to the next big release (like WordPress 7.0). Use this only if you are confident in your theme's compatibility.

Nixzoehost Expert Tip: Before any major version upgrade, we recommend using the "Back Up / Restore" tool in your dashboard to create a manual "pre-upgrade" snapshot. It only takes 30 seconds and acts as an extra safety net!
