Can I use an already issued SSL with your cPanel plugin?
Yes, you can! At Nixzoehost, we understand that you might have activated your SSL certificate through our website or Client Area before discovering the convenience of the cPanel plugin.
However, there is a small technical "catch": the plugin cannot "see" a Private Key that was generated outside of it. To use an already issued SSL with the plugin, you simply need to perform an automated reissue within the plugin interface.
How to Import an Existing SSL into the Plugin
If your SSL was activated elsewhere but you want the plugin to handle the installation and future management, follow these steps:
-
Open the Plugin: Log in to cPanel and click the Nixzoehost SSL icon.
-
Sync Your Account: Click the Sign in with Nixzoehost button. This synchronizes the certificates in your Nixzoehost account with your cPanel.
-
Find the "Ready for Installation" Tab: This is where the plugin stores certificates that are active in your account but not yet installed on this server.
-
Click Install: Locate the certificate you want to use and click the Install button next to it.
-
Confirm the Reissue: Because the original Private Key was created elsewhere, the plugin will ask for permission to reissue the certificate. Click Yes, Replace or Confirm.
-
Sit Back & Relax: The plugin will now generate a new Private Key on your server, request a new certificate from the CA, and install it automatically. This usually takes 1525 minutes.
Why Does it Require a Reissue?
The plugin is designed to be a "closed-loop" security system. For it to manage your SSL correctly, it needs to "own" the Private Key.
-
Security: By reissuing the certificate, the plugin creates a brand-new RSA Private Key directly on your server.
-
Compatibility: This ensures that the plugin can automatically renew or move the certificate in the future without asking you for manual files.
Important Notes for 2026
-
Validation: Since a reissue creates a "new" certificate file, you may need to complete the Domain Control Validation (DCV) one more time. The plugin will attempt to do this automatically via the HTTP method if your DNS is already pointed to Nixzoehost.
-
Backups: If you want to keep a copy of your original certificate and key, we recommend downloading them from your Client Area before you click "Install" in the plugin.
-
External Certificates: Please note that this only works for certificates purchased through Nixzoehost. You cannot use this plugin to manage certificates bought from other providers (like GoDaddy or DigiCert).
